Editors of the Technical Manual

Hazel Henderson is an independent futurist, author, worldwide syndicated columnist, and consultant on sustainable development. She conceived the Country Futures Indicators (CFI), an alternative to the Gross National Product in 1989. The first version of the CFI is the
Calvert-Henderson Quality of Life Indicators, a co-venture with the Calvert Group.

Dr. Henderson's editorials are syndicated by InterPress Service to some 400 newspapers in 27 languages. She has published articles in over 250 journals, including The Harvard Business Review, The New York Times, The Christian Science Monitor, Challenge (United States), Mainichi (Japan), El Dario (Venezuela), Australian Financial Review, and World Economic Herald (China). Her books have been translated into German, Spanish, Japanese, Dutch, Swedish, Korean, Portuguese, and Chinese. Dr. Henderson serves on the advisory boards of the Calvert Social Investment Fund, the Cousteau Society, the Club of Budapest, the New Economics Foundation (London), and WETV, the global network based in Ottawa, Canada, and on the editorial boards of several publications, including WorldPaper (distributed in 25 newspapers throughout Asia, Latin America, China, Japan, Russia, Africa, and the Middle East), Futures Research Quarterly, FUTURE SURVEY, E: The Environmental Magazine (United States), Resurgence (United Kingdom), and Futures (United Kingdom). She co-edited the report of the Global Commission to Fund the United Nations entitled, The United Nations: Policy and Financing Alternatives (with Harlan Cleveland and Inge Kaul, 1995). Her editorials are syndicated by InterPress Service, Rome, New York and Washington, D.C in 400 newspapers in 27 languages.

She is a Fellow of the World Business Academy, has been a Regent's Lecturer at the University of California at Santa Barbara, held the Horace Albright Chair in Conservation at the University of California at Berkeley, and advised the U.S. Office of Technology Assessment and the National Science Foundation from 1974-1980. She is an active member of the National Press Club (Washington, D.C.), the Social Venture Network, the World Future Society (United States), and the World Futures Studies Federation (Australia). Dr. Henderson shared the 1996 Global Citizen Award with Nobel Laureate A. Perez Esquivel of Argentina.

Jon Lickerman is a consultant in the fields of socially responsible investing and corporate social responsibility. From 1992 to 2001, he was Director of the Social Investment Research Division at Calvert Group, a leading asset management firm specializing in socially responsible investment (SRI). Mr. Lickerman directed and contributed to the research development of the Calvert-Henderson Quality of Life Indicators project throughout its entire development since 1994.

Jon Lickerman is a practitioner in the field of evaluating corporate social responsibility practices within an investment context. He was one of the first professional analysts in the field of SRI research. He has developed analytical techniques for evaluating company, social, and environmental performance. Mr. Lickerman led the development of numerous investment policies that placed Calvert at the forefront of the SRI field. His work includes a focus on international SRI, working extensively with colleagues in the U.K. Mr. Lickerman works directly with corporations, with an emphasis on human rights and environmental practices. He also developed a number of public education initiatives in the field of SRI.

Jon Lickerman was the first researcher and later the Manager of Social Research at Working Assets (now Citizens Trust) from 1986 to 1992. In this capacity he specialized in environmental analysis. He is active in the fields of international labor rights and environmental management and sits on several boards of nonprofit organizations. Mr. Lickerman studied at the University of Oregon.

Patrice Flynn is an economist (Ph.D., M.A.), clinical social worker (M.S.W.), researcher, teacher, and writer concerned about improving economic and social conditions in the U.S. and abroad. Her specialty is empirical measurement with a particular focus on developing models and indicators to assess quality of life. Patrice is skilled at integrating economic concepts and statistics into other fields such as the nonprofit sector, sustainable development, national security, labor rights, politics, and continuing education. She has produced a strong publication record from this research.

Patrice is the founder and CEO of FLYNN RESEARCH, a basic and applied research institute located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, 60-miles outside of Washington, D.C. The firm designs empirical tools to measure the: (a) roles, functions, and contributions of for-profit and nonprofit organizations and (b) overall quality of life in the United States.

Formerly, Patrice was the Vice President of Research at Independent Sector in D.C., a labor economist at The Urban Institute, and the International Food and Nutrition Supervisor for Catholic Relief Services in Rwanda and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. Dr. Flynn is also an adjunct economics professor at George Washington University where she teaches career Navy and Air Force officers.

Hazel Henderson introduced Patrice to the Calvert-Henderson Indicators in 1994 as a consultant and author of the Employment Indicator. Patrice then joined Hazel Henderson, Jon Lickerman, and other Calvert staff in developing the project research methodology and co-editing the initial volume (2000). FLYNN RESEARCH produced the Calvert-Henderson volume and ensuing web site from 2000 through 2002.
